RAM8-V90 Phase 2
The Extel Remote Access Multiplexer (RAM8-V90 Phase
2) is the most feature rich and technologically
advanced pair gain system on the market.
 The
RAM8-V90 Phase 2 is an 8-channel system developed
specifically for the rural access network market.
It uses TC-PAM coding mechanisms for maximum reach
and compatibility with other broadband services
being deployed in adjacent pairs in the copper bundle.
V.90
RAM8-V90 Phase 2 provides V.90 data transmission
capabilities to each subscriber whilst being connected
upstream through POTS VF line cards at the switch
leading to faster Internet speeds.
Superior Ring Generation
The RAM8-V90 Phase 2 provides lifeline telephony
and can ring at least 20 phones (20 REN) simultaneously.
This is achieved without exceeding the recommended
safe power levels on the digital link, and many
other pair gain systems sadly lack this vital capability.
Multi Level Line Testing
The RAM8-V90 Phase 2 enables an automatic line tester
to carry out a complete metallic test on any cable
pair to the subscriber phone. During the test process
the Exchange Unit and Remote Unit are automatically
bypassed to provide a complete copper path. This
happens automatically without any operator intervention
at the exchange end or the remote location.
The RAM8-V90 Phase 2 can also carry out full metallic
line testing of the digital link and the cable pair
from the Remote Unit to the subscriber on command
from the central Element Manager. A number of useful
tests including insulation resistance are carried
out and are reported as actual values.
Repeaters
The RAM8-V90 Phase 2 can operate with up to three
repeaters in the digital link. All repeaters are
line powered from the exchange. With one repeater
no external power is required at the Remote Unit.
Both solar and mains power options are available
at the Remote Unit when multiple repeaters are used.
The systems include full emergency battery backup
power and management.
 Remote
Installation
The RAM8-V90 Phase 2 remote unit is hermetically
sealed. It is generally installed underground and
will successfully operate immersed in up to 5 metres
of water. High-level overvoltage and overcurrent
protection enables the Remote Unit to be installed
in areas with regular lightning strikes.
