System Management

All Extel Digital Pair Gain systems are designed
so they can operate without a separate management
system. It is highly recommended that an element
management system be employed in order to store
and manage alarms and for remote monitoring.

Access to the Extel Management System is
via:

1. Navigation switches on the front panel
2. The RS-232 port using HyperTerminal or a VT-100
terminal
3. An external modem or optional onboard modem

FIU (Front end Interface
Unit)

Entry-level
management can be performed using the FIU. The
FIU slots into the far left location in an Extel
subrack and derives its power from any exchange
card located in the subrack. On-board battery
backup protects all information stored in memory,
such as configurations or statistics in case of
subrack power failure.

The user is able to access
the following outputs:

· Current alarm status and alarm
history
· System identity and configuration
· Customer call statistics
· Metallic line testing using an
external line tester

OMI (Operations &
Management Interface)

The
OMI provides the following features over and above
those of the FIU:

· Software download to all elements
within the subrack and to all corresponding
Remote Units and Repeaters
· Metallic testing of all subscriber
lines using internal test leads
· Software selectable impedance
matching
(600 ohm / Zn)
· Software selectable system loss
(1-3 dB).

OMIA (Operations &
Management Interface Advanced)

The
OMIA provides the following features over and
above those of the OMI:

·
SNMP Element (Manager) interface
· Access via POTS, ISDN ports or
Ethernet
· Automatic software download
· Metallic testing of digital link
· Automatic
dial up on events
