Remote DSLAM and Exchange Unit

R8as:
C8sl: |
Remote
8-port ADSL with
Splitters
Central-office 8-port
SHDSL with Line-powering |

Unique to the expandsl product range
is the world’s smallest, lightest, most rugged and most waterproof
DSLAM. The R8as is a line-powered remote DSLAM with an SHDSL backhaul. It is powered over the same copper pairs used for the SHDSL backhaul, hence reducing the total number of required pairs.

Not requiring local power or shelter it can be deployed far from the closest exchange or cabinet. Subscribers are then served from this Remote DSLAM, effectively extending the reach of ADSL, and bypassing DSL blockers.

Only the size of a small shoe-box, and being fully submersible to a depth of 5m (16 feet), the R8as can be deployed in more locations than any other DSLAM. It can be installed on a pole, or in a pit or manhole susceptible to flooding, as well as other locations such as un-powered cross-connect cabinets. Its small size and light weight also allows it to be suspended from overhead cable.

The C8sl Exchange Unit provides power and SHDSL connectivity to up to four remote DSLAMs, and provides the ATM or IP interface to the remainder of the network. Being compact in size, the C8sl can be installed in cabinet locations where other reach extension products will not fit.

· Lowers the cost of extending DSL reach and bypassing broadband
blockers by...
- Removing the need to acquire new real-estate and cabinets in some
locations
- Eliminating the need to remove small pair-gain equipment and
deploy more copper plant
- Eliminating the costly and time consuming exercise of removing
loading coils from every line
- Reducing the amount of equipment required to serve a given number
of subscribers. Eg only two pieces of equipment are required to
provide DSL to eight subscribers (unlike some DSL extension
products, an existing DSLAM is not required).
