Conventional
DSLAMs with plug-in line cards require the initial
purchase of a chassis, including controller, power
distribution, etc. These solutions are often unsuitable
for small COs because demand for DSL in the area
is low or uncertain, or the DSLAM will not fit in
the available space.

Extel solves this issue of granularity
with small inexpensive self-contained 8-port and
24-port ADSL DSLAMs that are highly scaleable in
line-count and backhaul capacity.

With a much lower initial Capital Expenditure and
the ability to scale with demand, the business case
for DSL-enabling many cabinets and small COs just
turned positive.
