High Speed Internet & High
Definition TV to Regional & Rural Areas

November, 2006
Extel
Communications announces that it has completed testing of an upgraded version
of its expandslTM Remote DSLAM
that facilitates economical delivery of High Speed Internet and High Definition
TV to regional and rural areas.
The expandsl
variant enables broadband services provided by ADSL2+ to be delivered to
customers. A total throughput of 96 Mbps
is available to be dedicated to 8 customers enabling each of them to
individually and simultaneously receive 12 Mbps peaking to 24 Mbps (the full
ADSL2+ speed). The new expandsl
variant has both an ATM
interface for existing networks and an IP interface for Next Generation
Networks.
Upgrades to
existing expandsl hardware will
commence shipping in December 2006. The
further addition of a fibre fed remote interface unit unlocks the full
potential of the expandsl Remote DSLAM variant enabling solutions serving 8 to 48 customers
from a single location. This site in the
fixed access network can be a pit, manhole, pole or other external position
located up to 70 kilometres from a network exchange.
In regional
and rural areas where the demographics are sparse yet the demand for high
quality, dedicated broadband services is significant, expandsl uses a single
fibre to connect multiple remote units in a cascaded
network architecture.
“expandsl now
provides for fibre past the farm and is one step away from providing fibre all
the way to the farmhouse. It is a
sensible, scaleable and economic way to deliver high quality, high bandwidth
services to individual customers in rural demographics” said Michael Tomlinson,
Sales and Marketing Manager for Extel Communications.
