‘MPs in Business’ Program launched at
EXTEL Communications
Melbourne,
Australia
Mar
1, 2004

On 25th February 2004, the Victorian State
Premier, Steve Bracks, joined by local State Member of Parliament, Maxine
Morand, officially launched the ‘MPs in Business’ program at the premises of
Extel Communications in Mount Waverley.
The initiative, launched by the Victorian Government and Victorian
Employer’s Chamber of Commerce (VECCI), saw the placement of more than 30 State
Government Members of Parliament with business hosts across the state.
The program aims to give these Members of Parliament
first-hand experience of the issues and challenges facing businesses, and give
businesses an insight into the role and work of parliamentary representatives.
Business hosts for the program were drawn from small, medium and large
employers, high-tech and more “traditional” enterprises around Victoria.
The parliamentarian, Maxine Morand, spent the day meeting
with senior management, interacting with employees, touring the factory site
and learning about the business activities, history, performance, prospects and
daily workings of EXTEL. Previously a health professional, Ms Morand said she
greatly appreciated the opportunity to gain further insight into EXTEL’s
successful and innovative business and particularly the business and export
world of telecommunications.
